Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick held a Tele-Town Hall on March 27 to discuss President Biden’s American Rescue Plan of 2021, a comprehensive legislative package to address the public health and economic crises caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and deliver meaningful relief to American families, businesses, schools, and health care systems.
Kirkpatrick gave a rundown of what relief is available for you.
What the ARP means for families:
- An additional direct payment of $1,400 per person for all eligible Americans;
- An extension of the $300 per week matching federal supplemental unemployment benefits through September 6, 2021;
- Nearly $130 billion to help K-12 schools re-open safely;
- Makes the child tax credit fully refundable for 2021 and increases the annual amount from the current $2,000 per child to $3,000 per child;
- $27.5 billion in emergency rental assistance for housing insecurity nationwide;
- And an extension of food assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) maximum benefits by 15 percent (through September 30, 2021), and more than $5 billion in Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) so that low-income families have access to school meals and food assistance during both the school year and summer months.
What the ARP means for small businesses:
- Through the State Small Business Credit Initiative, the legislation allocates $10 billion for state governments to help leverage private capital and make low-interest loans and other investments;
- $15 billion to the Economic Injury Disaster Loan grants program to be given to small businesses in underserved areas, especially those that are minority-owned;
- $29 billion to create a grant program that provides direct relief to restaurants;
- $15 billion added to the Shuttered Venue Operators Grants program;
- and much more.
What else is in the bill?
- Over $7.6 billion in direct aid to the state of Arizona;
- Over $20 billion for a national COVID-19 vaccination program and to improve the administration and distribution of vaccinations;
- $51 billion to expand COVID-19 testing, contact tracing, and mitigation;
- $7.25 billion in additional funding for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP);
- $7.1 billion in broadband investments to expand internet connectivity for students and rural, tribal, and underserved communities; and
- More than $14.5 billion for the VA to provide health care services and provisions to ensure veterans will not have any copays or cost-sharing for preventative treatment or services related to COVID-19 going back to April 2020.
