Update from LD18 Protest Team

By Carol Evans, LD18 Protest Shepherd

Greetings from Protest City, USA!!

By the time you read this we will have completed our sixth protest event outside of Rep. Juan Ciscomani’s Tucson office sponsored by LD18 Democrats. Many thanks to all the protesters from LD18, and to those from farther afield, who have made their way to these protests to stand up and speak their minds. I am so grateful for this very special community.

Our small-but-mighty tabling team for these protests is Anne, Judy, and Susan. Please stop by the tables and give them hearty thanks if you can! There are several others who have stepped up for tasks such as bringing chillin’ chairs on a regular basis (Bobbi and Kit), providing snacks and water (Susan, Lori, Teresa, Kim), decorating our “Where’s Juan” cardboard figure (Jim), singing protest songs for the crowd (Tucson Raging Grannies), providing the most awesome protest signs (Paul), and last but not least, keeping us safe and out of trouble, our esteemed peacekeepers, Veterans for Peace. Thanks to everyone for making these protests a successful and safe way of expressing our feelings about the current wannabe king and one of his complicit minions, our current congressman Juan Ciscomani.

Protests like these have been great for our Party Building efforts. Our first protest outside of Ciscomani’s office had over 600 people! Subsequent protests have averaged around 260 people.  Over 200 people have signed up for our LD18 mailing list as a result of attending the protest and visiting our welcome table.  Check out a short video of the May 1st event.

To receive news on upcoming protests and other local actions, be sure to check out the Events section of ld18dems.org.  For a comprehensive list of upcoming events, there is now an email sign-up form at  Take Action Tucson’s website. If you have questions, email them at [email protected].

Protesting is just one of the tools in our Saving Democracy belt. Our help is also needed with legal challenges. President Trump’s almost daily signing of Executive Orders has prompted over 200 lawsuits. Many of these suits are being filed by the ACLU and our very own Attorney General, Kris Mayes. If you are able, please consider supporting these efforts to defend our fragile democracy and rights.

Thanks for reading to the end. See you at the next Protest!
