Lisa Wolfe, LD9 Volunteer – Outlaw Dirty Money Petition Coordinator
Outlaw Dirty Money (ODM) petition circulators have gathered approximately 60,000 signatures statewide, far fewer than the 200,000 mistakenly reported at the last LD9 meeting. In fact, we need more than 200,000 valid signatures in order to get the Constitutional Amendment on the ballot in November. Because some signatures may be duplicates or otherwise invalid, Terry Goddard, the petition chairperson, estimates we’ll need 300,000 signatures. So we have a long way to go.
Merrill Eisenberg, ODM’s Southern AZ lead volunteer, is encouraged by the number of petitions she receives daily, and reports that the rate of incoming petitions is increasing. Gabe Acosta recently joined the ODM team as a field consultant for Southern Arizona. He and Travonne Smith are working together to help Southern AZ collect signatures.
The deadline to file the petitions with the Secretary of State is July 5. But to meet that deadline, Merrill and Terry want petitions no later than June 5, so they can check them for signature validity and proper notarization. If there are errors or insufficient signatures, we’ll still have time to make corrections before the deadline. That means we have about one month left to gather signatures!
PLEASE, if you have petitions with 15 signatures, turn them in as soon as possible so that Merrill can get a more accurate signature count. She estimates that she’s gotten back about 37% of the petitions distributed for circulation in Southern Arizona.
If you need more petitions, contact Lisa Wolfe ([email protected]) or 520-260-3974.
