Peacefully, proudly and determinedly, some 7,000 Tucsonans marched from Jacome Plaza in downtown Tucson to the University of Arizona on March 24 in solidarity with the students from Majory Stoneman Douglas High School. These students and their peers are changing this country’s dialogue about guns. The young folks who organized the Tucson march wisely kept it nonpartisan, as did the MSD students who drew an estimated 800,000 to the March for Our Lives in Washington, D.C. As they invariably do, Tucsonans came up with a plethora of clever, poignant and memorable signs. Many of their parents and grandparents realized that – as JFK said in his 1961 inaugural – the torch has been passed to a new generation.
