Legislative District 9 Reorganization is coming up soon. Here is everything you need to know.
Every two years all Legislative Districts of the Arizona State Democratic Party “reorganize” i.e. elect new officers. Every office is open. Officers should be elected Precinct Committeepersons.
On Tuesday November 27th at our LD9 Meeting, we will be conducting our elections. Listed below are the positions and responsibilities. Think about how you would like to participate! Legislative District 9 NEEDS YOU!
Chair: (elect 1)
- Presides at all meetings of the Executive Board and of the full Committee.
- Make appointments to all committees.
- Serves as an ex-officio member of all committees.
- Sets agenda for all meetings, with the advice and consent of the Executive Board.
- Is a member of the Pima County Democratic Executive Committee and shall represent the District’s interests on that body.
First Vice-Chair: (elect 1)
- Act in the absence or disability of the Chair. The First Vice-Chair shall have duties as assigned by the Chair and approved by the Executive Board.
Second Vice-Chair: (elect 1)
- Act as Chair in the absence of both the Chair and First Vice-Chair. The Second Vice-Chair shall have duties as assigned by the Chair and approved by the Executive Board.
Recording Secretary: (elect 1)
- Keeps a written record (“minutes”) of all meetings of the Committee and of all meetings of the Executive Board.
- Keeps a record of attendance at all meetings of the Committee and of the Executive Board.
Corresponding Secretary: (elect 1)
- Issuance of notices of all meetings and for all correspondence necessary to conduct the business of the Committee.
- Shall maintain a complete and current record of the membership • Responsible for the determination of a quorum at all meetings
Treasurer: (elect 1)
- Responsible for the care and custody of the funds of the Committee
- Deposit or cause funds to be deposited in the name of the Committee in a timely manner into an account in a financial institution as designated by the Executive Board.
- Keep full and accurate records of all receipts and disbursements.
- Report on financial matters at all regular meetings of the Committee and of the Executive Board, and at the Biennial (organizational) Meeting of the Committee.
Representatives to the Pima County Democratic Executive Committee: (elect 2)
- Attend all meetings of the Pima County Democratic Executive Committee whenever possible.
- Report the actions of the Executive Committee to the Committee and the Executive Board at the next meetings of these groups.
- May also report (in the absence of the District Chair) to the Pima County Executive Committee on the actions of the Legislative District 9 Committee.
State Committee Representatives: (elect 56 – One per three Elected PCs)
- Attend all meetings of the Arizona State Party whenever possible.
- Participate in the election of Delegates to the Democratic National Convention

Every candidate for office should be prepared to have a person nominate and another second the nominations. The nominator should plan to introduce the candidate and speak to the candidate’s qualifications in a short speech of no longer than 1-2 minutes.
