Steve Dudick, PC, Precinct 68

Now that we’re in an election year, many of us are feeling anxious. Thoughts of “Democrats don’t vote,” or “the system is rigged against us,” return from the 2010 and 2016 elections, and doubt creeps into our collective consciousness. But now more than any time in our nation’s recent history, we must maintain focus and not lose sight of our goal.

Since I settled in Tucson in June, I’ve met and worked alongside many motivated Democrats, and have come to appreciate how much talent resides in LD9.  A “Blue Wave” has already washed over Virginia, Alabama and other locales, and with our collective effort, we can add Arizona to that list. But we must avoid the pitfalls of 2016 to get this done. We must stand together as a single force and not allow external forces, or ego, to divide us.

Over President’s Day weekend, I visited our nation’s capital and was inspired anew by the unstated power that emanates from its iconic locations.  The monuments and memorials along the National Mall, the Capitol, and, despite the current occupant, the White House, reminded me of the tenets that once made our nation the envy of the world.  Even with the present turmoil, the strength that these institutions represent give me hope that we can recover from the damage that has been done.

United by the principles of giving all Americans a chance at success through equal opportunity and access to quality education, investing in our future through rebuilding infrastructure and ensuring affordable healthcare for all, protecting our environment for future generations, and so much more, we have an opportunity this year to send a powerful message.  We can show the world that we will not sit idly by while the administration tarnishes almost beyond recognition the fundamental principles upon which our democracy stands. LD9 Democrats are proud, strong and principled. This continues to give me hope for the future.
