Heros of LD18: Peggy Turk-Boyer and Cristina Soto-Weibel

Many thanks to LD18’s volunteer Video Editor and Producer, Charles Wantman.

Peggy Turk-Boyer and Cristina Soto-Weibel are both elected precinct committee people and dedicated organizers in the Sabino Territory of LD18. Not only are they friends, but they also team up with the Latino Democrats of Tucson.

“As I was retiring, we just found each other and had similar goals and we just connected. We have a name for it: the Latino Dems of Tucson. I try to make volunteering easy. That’s what I consider my job, is to try to make it easy for people,” Peggy said.

“To me, it’s like a great outlet because you’re using your energy doing the work that needs to be done for that change to happen,” Cristina said.

“There’s a lot of potential with the Latino vote in Tucson. The main thing is that they don’t vote. And they don’t even know what a ballot looks like. We saw that a lot of the young people and a lot of the new voters were intimidated in their first voting. They need a lot of support and education,” she added.

“We tried everything, wrote to people, called them, and got them engaged, and there was a lot of interest in participating. In our 2020 election, Mark Kelly got elected, and Joe Biden got elected. 2024 is going to be even better than what we did in 2020. 2024 is in the bank,” Peggy said.
