Attorney General Mayes Hosting Town Hall on Housing Justice

March 27 @ 6:00 pm 8:00 pm

Location: YWCA of Southern Arizona, 525 N. Bonita Ave., Tucson, AZ 85745

Attorney General Kris Mayes will host a town hall in Tucson on Thursday, March 27th, to hear from Tucsonans and discuss her work protecting fair housing ahead of April, National Fair Housing Month. She will also update constituents on her ongoing lawsuits against President Trump and Elon Musk’s illegal federal funding cuts and firings.

“Renters, understanding your rights under Arizona fair housing laws can help you defend against discriminatory practices,” said Attorney General Mayes. “My office is here to make sure Arizonans are being treated fairly and equally under the law when securing housing.”

At the community event, Attorney General Mayes will join Representative Betty Villegas of LD 20 discuss Arizonans’ rights under the Arizona Fair Housing Act, emphasize steps constituents should take to protect themselves from housing discrimination, and answer questions about fair housing and the requirements of our civil rights laws.

Studies of housing in Arizona reveal that, even now, Arizonans are disparately impacted by a legacy of discriminatory housing practices, like restrictive covenants and lending practices. Anyone who believes they are the victim of housing discrimination should file a civil rights complaint with our office.

During the town hall, Attorney General Kris Mayes will also answer questions about her lawsuits to hold the federal government accountable for the illegal and unconstitutional actions of President Trump and Elon Musk. The Arizona Attorney General’s office has filed the following lawsuits against the Trump administration to protect Arizonans: protecting Birthright Citizenship and the 14th amendmentblocking the federal funding freezestopping DOGE’s attacks on privacyprotecting medical and public health researchstopping Elon Musk’s unconstitutional powergrabstopping the indiscriminate mass firings of federal employees, and protecting Arizona students and schools. She will continue to fight to reverse their authoritarian overreach and protect Arizonans.

“My office has been inundated with calls, including from Tucson, about the terrible consequences for their bank account, their local schools, their local health centers, and close to every part of our community as President Donald Trump and Elon Musk take a chainsaw to the federal government,” said Attorney General Mayes. “I look forward to updating Tucson on our significant wins in court blocking Trump’s illegal and unconstitutional actions and answer questions about what more we can do if the Trump administration continues to break the law.”
