Actions using Request to Speak for the week of March 29th, 2021

This is the last week for RTS  UNTIL Budget Bills are introduced (possibly not until June).

ACTION ITEM:  Check back on the CEBV website https://www.cebv.us/ on Monday at 6:30 PM to get an update on the following Striker Bills because the actual language of these bills will not be released until Monday at 5 PM.

Remind me, what is a Striker Bill?  AKA “strike-everything amendments,” these replace all existing text from bills that have already gotten partway through the legislative process.  The new text doesn’t even have to be related!  Strikers can revive dead bills, skip over parts of the public hearing process, advance unpopular ideas, or all of the above.  This is the last week for strikers, as they can’t be used in the Rules committees or on the floor.

Tuesday, March 29, 2021

1411 – MONITORING – Striker Bill –  Unemployment compensation changes

Wednesday, March 30, 2021

2248 – OPPOSE – Hamstrings the Arizona Corporation Commission from doing all aspects of their job

2794 – OPPOSE – Voter Suppression Bill – Making any election-related date in statute a class 6 felony

2808 – SUPPORT – Appropriates $10 million in one0time funding for rural broadband grants

2037 – OPPOSE – Asks voters to amend the Arizona /constitution to allow the legislature to call itself into session for the purpose of regulating a state of emergency.  The details of this bills contain provisions for lawmaker pay, and in a clear swipe at the mayors of Arizona’s three largest cities, bars cities and counties from acting to manage a state of emergency on their own.

RTS:  Bills in House and Senate Rules Committees

Rules meets only to determine if bills are constitutional and in the proper format.  it’s an opportunity to support or oppose bills, but don’t spend time on comments because the lawmakers don’t read them.  You have probably already seen these bills in past weeks.

Positions on these bills must be entered before 9 AM.
