SUPPORT LOCAL CANDIDATES: HOW TO ENGAGE

LD18 strongly encourages all our volunteers to actively help elect the Democrats that are on the November ballot. In years past, LD18 directly mobilized volunteers to knock doors, make phone calls, or text voters. A couple election cycles ago, the LD18 Board realized there was a lot of redundancy in the voter outreach being done by LD18, candidates, and the Coordinated Campaign*. We were stepping on each other’s toes a bit.

To most effectively use our limited resources to elect Democrats, LD18 now joins and helps expand the voter outreach coordinated by candidates and the Coordinated Campaign.

This election cycle, as in the past two cycles, we will encourage the LD18 volunteers to work directly with Democratic candidates and/or Copper State Victory (which is the current year’s name for the Coordinated Campaign).

To directly support LD18 Legislative Democratic candidates:

Priya Sundareshan (incumbent Senator)
Nancy Gutierrez (incumbent Representative)
Chris Mathis (incumbent Representative)

LD18 Representatives are organizing through Copper State Victory.
You can get involved.

To directly support LD17 Democratic candidates:

Edgar Soto (Senate candidate)
Holly Lyon (House candidate)
Kevin Volk (incumbent Representative and House candidate)

Why spend time helping a district other than our own?
LD17 is our neighboring LD which currently has a Republican in the Senate seat and in one of the House seats. These are highly likely “flippable” seats and LD18 works with LD17 to make this flip happen.

*The Arizona “Coordinated Campaign” is a centralized political operation run by the state political party to help elect candidates for multiple offices up and down the ballot. It shares resources like polling, field offices, and voter outreach—such as canvassing and phone banking—to boost the entire party ticket.

This year, it is called Copper State Victory and is a project of the Navajo County Democratic Committee in partnership with key national and state allies to re-elect Governor Katie Hobbs, Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, and Attorney General Kris Mayes, win legislative races, and elect Democrats up and down the ticket.
