Arizona’s COVID-19 infections and deaths are on the rise. As of 6/16/2020 cases jumped 54% in one week. IN ONE DAY (6/15/2020) Arizona had 2,392 new cases.

Science has clearly shown that wearing a mask assists in slowing/stopping the spread of COVID-19.

We ask the Governor of Arizona to mandate that people wear a mask while in public places in order to protect public safety (Exceptions: those under the age of two, or those with conditions where wearing a mask would be dangerous).

The wearing of a mask in a public place does not limit freedom of speech, freedom of travel, freedom of assembly.

Who supports wearing masks?

Mayo Clinic: masks drastically reduce the number of droplets that make it beyond the wearer’s mask and into their surroundings.

Center for Disease Control: Recent studies that a significant portion of individuals with coronavirus lack symptoms (“asymptomatic”) and that even those who eventually develop symptoms (“pre-symptomatic”) can transmit the virus to others before showing symptoms.  This means that the virus can spread between people interacting in close proximity (speaking, coughing, or sneezing) even if those people are not exhibiting symptoms. CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.
