This is a short sheet this week. More than half of 2021’s introduced bills are officially dead. The Rules Committee is not meeting this week so there are no bills to look at there. I recommend reading Melinda Iyer’s report on the over 120 bills of concern to stay abreast of pending legislation that could change our lives (mostly NOT in a good way).

1096 – SUPPORT – Subject to a “striker” to fund AHCCCS, Arizona’s Medicaid system. The money exists to fund the program but permission to spend those funds was inadvertently left out of last year’s “skinny budget. Includes a suggested amendment to fund KidsCare. Indicate in your comments you support the striker as well as the Butler amendment to the striker.

1097 – SUPPORT – Would clarify excused absences for mental health reasons for students. An effort to address mental health issues in students.
1376 – SUPPORT – Requires health education instruction in schools to include a mental health component.
2241 – SUPPORT – Requires that curriculum in grades 7th – 12th include the Holocaust and other genocides at least twice during those grades.
2705 – SUPPORT – Prohibits schools from establishing a dress code policy preventing students from wearing traditional tribal regalia or objects of cultural significance at a graduation ceremony.

1104 -OPPOSE – Puts an onerous requirement on political campaigns to itemize every contribution from someone outside Arizona.
1135 – OPPOSE – Increases the allowable dollar-for-dollar 529 tax deduction from a total fo $2,000/$4,000 per single/couple to $2,000 per 529 beneficiary. Sounds like a good idea doesn’t it? The problem lies in the fact that Arizona currently allows more in tax deductions known as tax expenditures, because money that never gets to the general fund is the same as money spent) than the entire state budget.
