After the Senate passed the Big Ugly Bill on Tuesday, July 1, we quickly organized a pop-up protest the next day in front of Representative Ciscomani’s office. It was well attended, with around 130 protesting in the Tucson morning heat. So many vehicles were honking their support for us as they drove by! Thank you to all who participated!
On another day last week, I was in front of Ciscomani’s office with no more than a dozen people in an unorganized, small pop-up protest. Notwithstanding the smaller crowd, the rush hour drivers honked just as much as if the crowd had been larger! Why does honking matter? Beyond the energizing aspect we all feel when drivers show their support, the added benefit is that the honking can be heard from Ciscomani’s office on the 2nd floor.
I encourage you to grab a sign and a friend or two, and head down there any weekday morning between 8:00am and 9:30am (this is when there is the most traffic). Please contact me at carolevans831@gmail.com if you need signs.
I will not be organizing protests in front of Ciscomani’s office until the weather changes. Many of us are experiencing heat exhaustion from being outside on the sidewalk for too long. Please continue to call and write to Rep. Ciscomani about your concerns. Come the fall, we plan to join forces with LD17 Democrats to table across both districts, registering voters and distributing educational outreach materials. Our goal, as always, is to elect Democrats up and down the ballot!
The next big rally will be on July 17th at Reid Park, in honor of John Lewis. Good Trouble Lives On! There will be a protest and a rally at Reid Park and one also in Oro Valley. For details about these and other upcoming events, see the LD18dems Events page.
For those of you who will be working with us to register voters in the fall and beyond, please refresh your knowledge and skills with a short Zoom training here: https://ld18dems.org/sign-up-for-voter-registration-training/
Finally, please bookmark the Indivisible Tucson Action Alliance (ITAA) website. Their website has the most comprehensive and well-laid-out information for us in this turbulent time.
This is a marathon, not a sprint. Pace yourselves; and be safe out there!
