MAGA extremists and their leader, Kevin McCarthy, forced through drastic cuts to bedrock American programs and Rep. Ciscomani voted to help them do it. America has always managed to meet its financial obligations, but this year we are being pushed to the brink of default because of MAGA hostage-taking stunts that threaten life-saving benefits that working people like me have paid into their entire lives.
The impacts are far-reaching: funding for veterans programs and schools slashed, Meals on Wheels and food assistance eliminated for millions, hospital funding in jeopardy, and even payment to military service members and their families in doubt. The risks of default would spike interest rates and cause chaos for working families here in AZ, and DAMAGE THE GLOBAL ECONOMY.
This legislation passed by McCarthy and supported by Rep. Ciscomani is a toxic mix of the very worst proposals from the Freedom Caucus, including cutting IRS funding meant to stop the ultra-rich from cheating on their taxes, all at the expense of our working families. The wealthy win, the rest of us lose.
Our community’s health, medical access, and financial stability are at risk if MAGA Republicans don’t back down from this ledge – they are pushing us towards default. Their irresponsible approach to governing will have severe, wide-reaching impacts that we can’t afford, and will damage the country for decades to come.
I call on Rep.Ciscomani to stop pushing us towards a dangerous default, and to raise a clean debt limit. The debt limit was raised THREE TIMES under Trump with no problems.
This manufactured crisis is MAGA political theatre, to gain political points. The rest of us will pay the price.
